Mental Health Services in McLean County

About ten years ago, the McLean County League of Women Voters conducted an extensive study of mental health services in our county and developed a consensus regarding the delivery of these services. The current consensus on mental health states: The League supports proactive core leadership, planning, coordination, and collaboration for mental health services in McLean County • Funding which is effective to meet the needs for a comprehensive continuum of mental health services in McLean County • Cradle to grave mental health services for all individuals in McLean County. (revised 2014)

Lately, there have been questions raised about the management of the mental health and public safety sales tax fund, and an audit will be conducted. Both city councils have voted a one-year pause on contributing revenue to the McLean County mental health and public safety sales tax fund. League members Judy Buchanan, Sally Rudolph and others have been following these developments closely with the League's consensus in mind. They will be meeting with representatives of both municipalities and the county to gather information on the recent questions posed regarding the Mental Health & Public Safety Fund and the proposed audit.

In addition, the Behavioral Health Action Plan, formerly Mental Health Action Plan, is under revision at this time. The League will be participating with the McLean County Behavioral Health Coordinator and Heartland Community College in planning focus groups to preview the revised Action Plan and provide feedback. More information on how you can participate is to follow.

Findings from this work will continue to be shared with members.
