NORMAL, IL -- The
League of Women Voters of McLean County is undertaking a study of the two election authorities in McLean County. The study will focus on election administration of the two election authorities, the McLean County Clerk's office and the Bloomington Election Commission. This study is intended to address the interests of the voters and taxpayers.
Areas of exploration will include known voter and candidate confusion regarding the two election authorities, consistencies and inconsistencies in the practices of the two authorities, and opportunities for improved efficiency in administrative functions.
McLean County League President Chad Kahl said, "The League believes voting is a fundamental citizen right. Ensuring that voting is a straightforward and easily understood process enhances and strengthens our democracy."
The League has identified key stakeholders and subject matter experts. It will soon conduct interviews with those individuals.
The League regularly conducts studies to ensure it is working towards meeting its mission to empower voters and defend democracy. League studies are used to develop informed positions on matters of public importance.
The study committee intends to present its findings at a January League of Women Voters membership meeting. At that time, members will decide whether study findings support further League action.
