About this event
Join the League for its annual Fall Kickoff event. This year’s program will shine a spotlight on the powerful role young people play in strengthening democracy.
Speakers will share their perspectives and experiences in engaging students and young adults in civic life:
- Lynda Minor and Rhonda Kirts from the League of Women Voters of Champaign County will present their Youth Ambassador Program.
- John Bierbaum, Normal West High School teacher, will discuss how he led an effort for students to serve as election judges at the November 2024 General Election.
- Representatives from the Heartland Community College Service Learning & Civic Engagement unit, Illinois State University Center for Civic Engagement, and Illinois Wesleyan University Action Research Center will discuss how they engage college students.
Panelists will highlight projects that connect young adults to civic participation—from voter registration efforts to grassroots initiatives that build leadership skills and community involvement. There will be opportunities for Q&A.
The program is free and open to the public.
Advance registration is appreciated to help with planning.
