Annual Meeting July 16
Celebrate Us!

Our League annual meeting is Thursday, July 16, 6:00 pm, at the Bloomington Public Library. The agenda includes voting on a slate of officers, budget, our Program for the coming year, and more. The annual meeting is a fun time to connect with others, celebrate accomplishments, and help create new ways to pursue our mission.

You'll want to join in and enjoy our League community, and see how you can get involved in the coming year.

The pre-meeting information packet is ready for your review. Please read through the proposed Program for the coming year, the slate of officers, proposed bylaws changes and more.

See you there!

Bring a Friend to the Annual Meeting

Members are encouraged to bring a friend to this year’s Annual Meeting on Tuesday, July 16, at the Bloomington Public Library. While this is a business meeting where members will vote on upcoming League decisions, it is also a great opportunity to introduce prospective and new members to the League’s work and the year ahead.

Please stop by the Membership Table from 5:30 to 6:00 p.m. before the formal agenda begins. Members who are due to renew, or who have had trouble renewing online, may renew in person with a paper membership form. New members may also join at this time. Cash and check payments will be accepted.
League membership is now on a rolling basis, so each member’s renewal date is based on the
last date they joined or renewed. Donations to support the work of the local League will also be
accepted by cash or check.

The meeting begins at 6:00 p.m., with the formal agenda starting at 6:15 p.m. Come early to
renew if needed, welcome new members, and help grow the League’s impact in our community.

What’s all the fuss about Data Centers?

It seems the buzz words for the summer is data centers. You may have attended a listening session about them hosted by the City of Bloomington, or a Town of Normal or City of Bloomington Council meeting where moratoriums were enacted. Why the fuss? Who would data centers impact? How?

Join League members and guests for a lively discussion at Drinks and Dialogue on Wednesday, July 8.

Abby Scott and Michael Brown will speak on the topic and help enlighten us. Abby is a Bloomington City Council member representing Ward 9 and a Data Scientist/Model Architect with State Farm. She will have material for discussion around how Generative AI works and the difference between different AI models. Michael is the Executive Director of the Ecology Action Center. He will help us understand the implications of data centers to the environment, economy, and more.

We will convene at Gill Street Bar and Grill with social time from 5:30-6 p.m. and our discussion from 6-7. There is no cost to attend. Attendees are responsible for any food or beverages ordered from the restaurant’s menu.

For additional information, here's a video from the LWVIL about data centers.
