League of Women Voters to Host Feb. 3 Community Program: Part 2 Local Impacts of Government Funding Actions

The League of Women Voters of McLean County will host its next community information program on Tuesday, February 3, 6:30 PM at Heartland Community College Community Commons Building.
 
The program, Part 2: Local Impacts of Government Funding Actionswill shine a spotlight on the impact of recent government funding actions on McLean County families and communities. The program is a sequel to one held last fall.
 
This new program will again feature the work of The Documentation Project, formed in 2025 to record the local human impacts of government actions. It aims to inform and engage McLean County residents in public policymaking.
 
Presenters will discuss what several federally-funded programs do, and how the funding actions affect our local communities. Q&A and discussion will follow. Topics include:
 
Tariffs and USDA
Impact of tariff policies, and US Dept. of Agriculture cutbacks on area farms and our communities. 
Presenter: Michael Doherty, economist and independent consultant
 
Youth Enrichment Programs
Impact of termination of grants supporting enrichment and summer educational programs on families and students.
Presenter: Rebecca Kinsey, The Baby Fold
 
Science Grants
Impact of grant terminations on educational institutions and students.
Presenter: Gabe Spaulding, Professor of Physics, Illinois Wesleyan University
 
The program is free and open to the public.
