Brainstorming Ideas on Local Action
Twenty LWVMC members attended a Member Local Action Planning meeting on May 14. The goal was to consider our local response to governmental actions in conflict with League policy positions.
The group agreed that our effectiveness will rely on partnering with other local organizations, taking our information and our call to action out into the community, and emphasizing local impacts of national policy changes.
Specific ideas included:
* An Education Fair with possible topics such as Constitution 101, DOGE impacts on McLean County, and guidelines for communicating with elected officials;
* A publicized “topic of the week” that included information and easy direction for contacting elected officials related to it;
* Serving as a clearinghouse for local events and organizations.
Members in attendance emphatically agreed we have an important role to play in providing information and encouraging action.
They also indicated willingness to begin planning for these actions. In addition, members at the June 12 Annual Meeting will be asked to sign up to work on at least one.
