All-Member Meeting Apr 10: Federal Judiciary Study
by Laurie Wollrab, League President

You are invited to a Zoom consensus meeting about the ongoing Federal Judiciary Study by LWVUS, as described on its study information webpage. Our local meeting is being held on Thursday, April 10 at 6:00 pm and your voice counts towards how the LWVUS moves forward with this study.

The LWVUS is asking all Leagues to weigh in on this following the LWV's protocol of "speaking with one voice". As you look through the materials available from our event page (see registration link below), please do not respond to the survey on your own as one person communicating our local LWV McLean County consensus will complete it.

The LWVUS has provided excellent background material to prepare us in advance for our meeting during which we will walk through 12 questions listed in Study Consensus Form. I hope you will join us on April 10th.

Registration is required to receive the Zoom link.

Action Opportunities to “Empower Voters and Defend Democracy"

As part of the national “Hands Off” campaign, a local rally will be held Saturday, April 5, at the Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts from 12 - 1 pm. With speakers, music and signs, it’s a chance to express opposition to those actions of the current administration that suppress voter turnout and undermine League policies.

The state and national League of Women Voters are cosponsoring events at those levels. Though our chapter is not cosponsoring our local event, we want members to be aware of it and welcome participation at the BCPA, in Chicago, or elsewhere. Here is information about the local event on Saturday: Hands Off Event

The LWVIL is calling for action in what they are calling "Phone Call Fridays”. We are currently considering planning events in support of this. However, it would be effective to participate on your own with the information the LWVIL has made available. We strongly encourage you to do so. Phone Call Fridays

The LWVMC board will be discussing additional means to be active in our mission of “empowering voters and supporting democracy” in the current political environment at our Board Meeting on April 3.
