Poll Watchers Needed for Election Day

On Election Day, we will be placing poll watchers at key voting locations to help ensure that voters have appropriate access and that proper procedures are being followed. Contact Georgene Chissell by text at (309) 808 - 9516 or Laurie Wollrab at (309) 261-2688 for questions and find out about training.

Leaguers! Help Spread the Word
Information on County Auditor Office Referendum

Leaguers, we need your help! This is the time to step up and help us spread the word that a YES vote on the referendum to eliminate the elected office of the auditor is a vote for good government.

You can help by sharing our Facebook post or by talking to your friends and colleagues about it.

This is a really important referendum and it’s all about getting the word out. Some points to remember as you spread the word:

1. it’s a nonpartisan issue – the County Board voted unanimously to put it on the ballot, both Democrats and Republicans, and 4 nonpartisan groups all endorse it.

2. it’s not about the current officer holder but about the office itself;

3. it doesn’t eliminate auditing – audits are important and will still be done;

4. it would save taxpayers up to $100,000 per year, and

5. it would improve county government, streamline the functions of the auditor.

LWV in the News

Our media partner WGLT had a story about voters of disability rights at the ballot box. Members of the League helped develop an informational card (pictured left) to educate judges about people with disabilities and their rights. They also helped with a discussion about disability rights last week with Life CIL.  Hats off to leaguers, Mary O'Brien, Mark and Peggy Swerdlik for their work with Life CIL on this effort.

Will You Help Prepare the LWV IL Budgets?

The LWV IL is in the process of putting together a budget committee to prepare the 2024-26 LWVIL and LWV Education Fund budgets and is looking for people with a background in finance such as in banking, nonprofit management, or financial planning to assist with this. Please contact Laurie Wollrab at president@lwvmclean.org if you are interested.

This budget will need to be more carefully considered because of the transition in our membership and dues structure. The budget will need to be finalized and submitted to its April Board meeting. The LWV will be providing training on the membership transformation beginning next month.
