Scotus Punts on Social Media Censorship: What's Next?
Tuesday, August 27 at 7:00 p.m., via Zoom (Date Change)

Does the First Amendment allow U.S. government officials to intervene and prevent the spread of misinformation and disinformation on social media platforms? The U.S. Supreme Court recently had an opportunity to rule on this question. Instead, they declined to issue decisions in two cases, punting them back to officials in Texas and Florida.

Jill Wine-Banks, the distinguished attorney and MSNBC Legal Analyst, will join us to speak about the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent action on social media censorship.

This program will not be recorded for later viewing—please join us to watch it live.

LWV Moonshot - Abolishing the Electoral College
by Laurie Wollrab

I attended a YouTube presentation by Dr. Carolyn DuPont of Eastern Kentucky University entitled “The Electoral College: Myths and Realities”. It was hosted by the LWV Deerfield/Lincolnshire’s Electoral College Committee. I was amazed at how little I actually knew about the history of the Electoral College and was fascinated as she debunked the usual myths about it.

If you are interested in receiving the YouTube link to the presentation, see how in the information below. The link I have is “unlisted”, which means that it is not visible to persons who are searching or browsing and it cannot be pasted here. The in-depth talks presented by the committee are meant to be “training modules” for those of us who may be making presentations to the public and who want to have more background information.

Want to Learn More About this Initiative?
The Committee meets virtually every 3rd Friday of the month at noon, Central Time. If you would like to opt-in to the monthly email with the Zoom link, please reply to  abolishelectoral@gmail.com . The email is usually sent out on the Monday or Tuesday before the meeting.   You are not expected to respond or even attend, but you might like to keep informed about the committee’s activities. In every month’s notice, the links to all of the “training modules” will be sent which I think you will find interesting.
