The League will host a Social Justice Walking Tour on
Tuesday, July 30, 6:30 PM in the downtown Bloomington area. It will explore local history related to civil rights, women’s suffrage, freedom of the press, antisemitism, environmental justice, urban renewal, labor struggles, and other such social justice initiatives.
Labor historian Mike Matejka and McLean County Museum of History staff member Candace Summer will lead the tour. The walk covers approximately two miles.
Walking Tour participants will meet at the Museum main entrance on the
south side facing Washington Street. Please note: while the Museum address is 200 North Main Street, Bloomington, Illinois, the entrance is on Washington Street, on the south side of the building. We will begin promptly at 6:30.
Pre-Tour Gathering & Refreshments - 5:45 PM
Gather pre-tour or just come for the art and mingle at Beluga Press Gallery, an eminent downtown art gallery displaying the work of well-known local artists, including owner Rhea Edge. It's located at 313 N. Main, just north of the History Museum, and a short walk to begin the tour. Sandwiches and beverages will be served beginning at 5:45.
There is no fee for either portion of the event. League members, their children and friends are welcome.
Registration Is Required
