About this event
Join the League of Women Voters of Illinois to learn about more about recognizing mis-and disinformation in the media.
Featured speaker is Professor Michael Spikes, lecturer and Director of Teach for Chicago Journalism Program at the Northwestern University Medill School of Journalism.
Spikes is a practitioner and scholar who has spent 15 years in the fields of media literacy education, news media literacy, and youth media. His research centers on encouraging critical thinking to limit the effects of exposure to mis- and disinformation. As we struggle to distinguish fact from fiction, the need for these skills has never been more urgent.
This event is part of a League event series where noted authorities speak on relevant topics leading up to the U.S. Presidential Election on Tuesday, November 5. Presented by LWVIL’s Misinformation and Disinformation Task Force, the series is part of an effort to provide tools and resources that educate voters.
The event is free and open to all.
Event details can be found on the LWVIL Mis/Disinformation Task Force webpage at
